Catch a ferry

Large car-and-cargo-carrying ferries are a great alternative to cruise ships for exploring coastal areas. They're usually cheaper (but in most cases you can still book a cabin with loo and shower for longer journeys), and because they are smaller, you are closer in to shore, so the scenery is better.

Car ferries are also a good way to get from A to B, and commuter ferries can give you a different slant on a city.
